Crocheted Teething Biscuits

A dear friend of mine emailed me a couple of months ago with a request for crocheted teething biscuits for her little girl (who is about five months younger than my daughter).  I had all too recently gone through the horror of teething (these would have been incredible to have around had my friend come across the idea months earlier) and was eager to help ease the pain…for both of them!

I kept the pattern simple:

                             Round 1:

                                                      chain 12

                                                      2 hdc in the 2nd chain stitch from the needle

                                                       1 hdc in each stitch until you get to the last stitch

                                                       4 hdc in the last stitch

                                                        1 hdc in the back loops of the original chain in each stitch until you get to the last stitch

                                                        2 hdc in the back loop of the last stitch, join with a slip stitch

                                Round 2:

                                                      chain 2

                                                     2 hdc in each of the next 2 stitches

                                                    1 hdc in the next 8 stitches

                                                    2 hdc in each of the next 4 stitches

                                                    1 hdc in each of the next 8 stitches

                                                    2 hdc in each of the next 2 stitches

                                                    join with a slip stitch and bind off

                                                  (make two of these in each color that you want)

                            Finishing:

                                                    pair up the two wafers you just crocheted and single crochet them together around the edges with a contrasting color

                                                    i chained a loop of yarn to act as a key ring to hold the biscuits together…and it worked great!

The nice thing about these is that they’re quick, they’re easy, they don’t require much yarn (so you can use scraps rather than needing to buy a whole skein for a set of teething biscuits), they’re soft, and they’ll hold water/ice between the layers…hopefully lasting longer than a wet, frozen washcloth or traditional teething ring.
